Kumbol Sadath - A Brief Biography.

Sayyid Muhammad Al Aidaroos (Pappam Koya Thangal).

 

The great Pappam Koya Alias Sayyid Muhammad Al Aidaroos (Pappam Koya Thangal) was a holy person who lived among the Hoi Polloi (the common people) and always helped the downtrodden, destitutes and the poor people in distress. He always stood as a succor and refuge to them and Led a most pious life based on mutual peace and religious harmony until his last breath. The people are aplenty who saw rays of light in their life through the great Thangal who was the beloved Servant of Allah. Thangal was born in Hijra, 1244 under ‘Aidaroos’ Qabeela (Tribe) in the famous ancestral house of Nadapuram Karakkad near Vadagara of Kerala.That time’s Well- known scholar and Spiritual mentor Sayyid Kunhikoya Thangal was his father. While as young as 20 Years, the great Thangal left his home seeking spiritual solace in the path of Allah. In his long holy Journey, he spent the major part of his time in the holy cities of Mecca Madeena, Baithul Muqaddas, Bagdad, Ummu Ubaid and Ajmeer, etc... Later, Thangal returned to Kerala and Settled at Kumbol near Kumbla of Kasaragod. There he Married the sole daughter of Sayyid Umar Qasi. Thangal had two sons and six daughters. The eldest son Sayyid Umar Kunhi Koya Thangal Passed away at a young age after six months of his father’s death. The Second son is the Late Sayyid Fazal Pookoya Thangal.

 

The great Pappam Koya Thangal was a person of calm and genial temperament and his interaction and activities were among the laymen and poor people of the society. This rare gesture made the people call him affectionately ‘Pappam Koya Thangal’ meaning ‘The poor people’s own Thangal’. The word “Pavam” in plain malayalam became “Pappam” in the Kasaragod dialect. The great Thangal who received spiritual guidance and teachings from his own father and other spiritual mentors used to be engrossed in divine worship and service during the night hours, even as young. The area he chose for the divine worship was the uninhabitated hillside of Kumbol which is now called as “Pappam Koya Nagar”. The great Thangal, during his long spiritual journey acquired (earned) various spiritual courses and vast knowledge viz. Qadriyya from Bagdad; Rifayiyya from Ummu Ubaida; and Chisthiyya from Ajmeer. Thangal had a large number of disciples throughout the country. Many who had made ‘Bai-ath’ of spiritual courses with Thangal personally would always share and cherish those memories with pride and ecstacy.

 

The great Sayyid Muhammad Al Aidaroos (Pappam koya Thangal) is one of the most prominent personalities in the Hydros Qabeela (Tribe) among many a number of Qabeelas (Tribes) of Hadharmouth of yemen (the centre of Sayyid families) Who went all over the world in propagation of holy Islam.

Thangal who had the Ijazath (blessing) of ‘Summ’ (special power of curing the snake-bites) was famous in curing the victims of snake-bites and getting rid of the snake poisons successfully. Thangal always carried a special stick in his hand with which he had cured of many chronic and incurable diseases. Many a number of people in different walks of life who were blessed by the great Thangal had scaled the heights of their life later. The great Pappam Koya Thangal who had exclusively devoted  his life for divine cause and humanitarian services passed away on Dulhajj, 23, Hijra,1353 at the age of 109 at Kumbol.

Sayyid Fazal Pookoya Thangal.

The great Fazal Pookoya Thangal, after the demise of his revered father Sayyid Pappam Koya Thangal became famous in the spiritual field following in the foot-steps of his beloved father in letter and spirit. The great Pookoya Thangal Alias Fazal Pookoya Thangal was an abode of relief and succor to the common poor people who were in greater hardships and difficulties. The great Pookoya Thangal was born at Kumbol in hijra1325. With the demise of his beloved father, the great Fazal Pookoya Thangal started shining in the fields of his father. In a short apan of life, he gained permanent place in the hearts of people, by means of a number of wonders and miracles. All the people including non-muslim brethren highly respected and revered the great Fazal Pookoya Thangl who devoted his life for divine cause and led an exemplary life.
 
The great Fazal Pookoya Thangal always clad with purely white clothes and Turban and a green shawl over his shoulders was an impressive and uniqiue personality with a rare dignity of bearing and countenance - all reflected the great piety and devotion of Thangal and attracted the attention of all. He sympathized with the poor and his  hand of mercy  and charity  extended  to all  the poor people, orphans, destitutes and religious institutions. In the last days of his life, the great Thangal built up the presently existing Kumbol Badriya Masjid on an one acre of land endowed by him and formerly used by his beloved father for his divine worship at Pappam Koya Nagar, under his own supervision and responsibility, and made it his field of religious activities. Here Thangal established a ‘Dars’ (an Institute for religious studies) also under his own supervision. Thereafter, many other religious Institutions came up under this mosque. The “Pappam Koya House” or “Thangal Veed” of Sayyid Fazal Pookoya Thangal is still a centre of visitors. Sayyidath Ummu Haleema Beevi, the only daughter of Sayyid Husain Ba-Alavi Atta Koya Thangal of Kasaragod Patla is the life-partner of great Fazal PookoyaThangal. The great Beevi who lived as a shadow of her beloved husband Sayyid Fazal Pookoya Thangal is a model to the whole Sayyid Tradition in the Service of divine worship and in her commitment and strict adherence to the religious principles and Tenets. People from even far off places  come to the Pappam Koya House seeking the blessings and prayers of the great Beevi and return happily their grievances redressed. 
 
The well - known and eminent religious scholars like great C.M Madavoor Valiyullahi, Shamsul Ulama E.K, Aboobacker Musliyar. Thajul Ulama Ullal Thangal. Kottumala Usthad and Vayalithara Mohammed Kunhi Moulavi and Many other prominent personalities used to approach the great Beevi and Seek her blessings and prayers. O, Allah, grant long healthy life to the great Ummu Haleema Beevi who is living in the Pappam Koya House as a beaming light to all the Kumbol Sadath Aameen. Ya Rabbal Alameen. All the eminent religious scholars and sadath of Kerala and Karnataka had close contact and inseparable connection with Thangal. The solar brilliance and eminent religious scholar great Shamsul Ulama E.K. Aboobacker Musliyar was a regular visitor of Pappam Koya house. During the life time of Fazal Pookoya Thangal and after so many well-known Scholars have reached Kumbol. Sayyid Fazal Pookoya Thangal has five sons and four daughters, one daughter died while young itself. All the five sons of Sayyid Fazal Pookoya Thangal are also active in the field of religious service. The great Fazal Pookoya Thangal breathed his last on 27th Dulhajj, Hijra 1392 at the age of 67 (I.L.V.I.R.). The great Fazal Pookoya Thangal( R.A.) rests in peace in the holy Makham shareef (Tomb) near the Pappam Koya Nagar Badriya Juma Masjid built in the Mugal architectural style and design. May Almighty Allah multiply his heavenly grade and status day to day- Aameen. The place ‘Kumbol’, more than a place name is an abode of succor and centre of peace to thousands of poor people irrespective of caste, creed and religion the credit of which goes to the Kumbol Sadath. O’ Allah, bless them to continue to be in the service of holy religion and lead the community to rectitude (right path) for long and ever - Aameen.
